First, let me apologize for neglecting E-Squared for the last month or so. Before now, I could never have been accused of that, so let me explain. As a lot of you have observed, the online reality gaming community, and e-squared especially, is in a bit of a slump right now. About a month ago I decided it was time for extreme measures, something that I (and most other people) had discarded last time someone brought it up: a merge of ORG and E2. And that is exactly what Robert S. and I have been busy planning for the last month. Our number one goal is to unite as much of the ORG community as possible. By the end of the year, there will be a brand new index and a brand new forum up and running.
Let me also try to answer some of the questions that are going to come up: Both sets of old staffs will have to be laid off, however we will rehire compartmentalized staff members when the new index opens. Nothing old is coming with us to the new index; new awards, no one's ever been spotlighted yet etc etc. Yes, Robert and I are CO-managing this index. No, we do not have a name, my creative mind is at a loss. Please reply to this thread or head over to ORG’s with suggestions. For those of you that are especially interested in getting involved, I’m currently mulling over ways to feature games monthly or possibly weekly, hopefully with a unique system. You can IM me (Robrt34), PM, or reply with those suggestions. If you have any other questions, I’d be happy to answer those too. I hope everyone is as excited as we are about this merge, and I hope to see you all there!

I am in full support of this, and I'll talk to you about it sometime soon Rob. As for a name... why don't you get people to actually email them, some people might not be happy to post.. and then the person who submits the winning name can be permanently credited on the site... like as a prize. . .

Thanks, Fi. The person who is identified as the name-donor (;)) will definitely get credit where it is due, however it might be difficult to siphon ideas to a centralized email since we don't have one set up yet and ideas are already pouring in. I'm planning on keeping a sort of history where the persons name will be listed, and a game plug or something on our first update, though.

I mentioned this before, and it wasn't received well because it would be too much of a change...but I think it could cause more people to become interested in ORGs, and that would be to eliminate the "Reality" references.
In modern culture and today's world..."Reality TV" is viewed as something trashy by a lot of people, as in Dating Shows, Who wants to Marry a Billionaire, and stuff like that.
However in the ORG world there is a lot more involved with the games than reality TV...a good example would be Eden Falls. Most of the people felt it wasn't a game, but an actual online town. Even with smaller games it can be so much more. If you look on the ORG index at the Chichen All Stars thread, the evidence is there...it was more than simply a game.
I think that what these games really should be considered are Social Experiments. After all, the host creates a game with twists, runs it, and we all see the result. It draws a conclusion as to what happens when you bring these people, who wouldn't have met if it wasn't done so online, send them through what can be considered a surreal experience which allows one to come out on top. With this in mind, I think it should be changed to SIOs, (Social Internet Experiments).
In addition...the thing about this change is that it allows a great forum for ideas and innovation within the games...
If changing it to be an experiment or experience instead of game is too awkward though, it could just be SIGs, Social Internet Games. What does need to happen to allow more interest from online users is to take out the Reality part...simply because Reality TV is considered a negative, lazy activity dominated by mediawhores that very few people would want to actually partake in.

I dunno.. I don't think the whole Reality should be removed from the title. It's sorta misrepresenting the community if you try to draw other's in by calling it a Social Internet Experiment (Which basically sounds like a science project). And if those people who do hate reality tv roam upon the "SIEs".. they're just going to open the forum see Survivor and Big Brother.. and walk away anyhow.
I was thinking somewhere along the lines of..
The Online Reality Experience aka ORE

Since this whole "merge" of ORG and E2, is kind of an experiment in ways. I am going to suggest the game, PROJECT: org; it keeps the famouse "org" and kind of goes with the theme. Also, you can easily do a webpage scheme around that too. Just my 2 cents

I posted my suggestion at ORG, so I may as well post it here also.
Virtuality.
This word means the online representation of reality...I can't think of another word that sums up both the community and activity in which we are involved.
and I should mention, if you don't like it, i'm gonna sulk.

Quote:| In light of the events that have taken place recently and my waning emotional state, I have also decided to step down and hopefully discontinue this venture. I have tried to better the community and many people have fought me the entire way for their own petty reasons. I do thank those of you that were with me, though. ORGs are meant to be a hobby, not work. And that's what it has turned into me trying to put up this new index. I think I need to stop now before we go any further and get ourselves set up only to fail. Instead, I've decided to relocate to a rapidly growing community (and hopefully the next major index), Virtual Eyes. I will leave the link to give out to it's operaters, Fiona and Simone. But I do hope that we those of that are interested in a change for the better there. I also hope that Robert S. will see the good in this decision and not try to continue without the time that it requires to maintain an index. |
|
I'd also like to give a special thanks to eveyone at E2. I've been here since the beginning and staffed for over a year and I've never lost faith in the good part of the community. The other people. For those people there is still hope, just like there was when EGC closed. As one era ends, a new one begins. http://www.virtualeyes.org/index.php
